Overview

Air Quality and Gas Testing

Let’s discuss the air we breathe; sometimes, it's not as clean and fresh as we'd prefer. Dust, fumes, pollutants, contaminants, and vapours can invade our homes, schools, offices – wherever you find yourself.

Remember, the air you breathe isn't merely a presence in the background — it significantly impacts your health, comfort, and productivity, whether you're at work or simply residing indoors.

The MPL Edge

Our NATA Accreditation covers a whole range of testing services for air quality, including VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), sulfur compounds, fixed and permanent gases, and other compounds.

If you can’t find the compound you are wanting to test for, please contact us here at any time.

Volatile Organic Compounds

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which describes certain chemicals that turn into gases or vapours derived from solids and wastes. These include household and office products, building gear, and all those furnishings that make your space cozy.

Indoor air can sometimes hold more VOCs than outdoor air. VOCs can play a role in the quality of the air you're breathing, and significantly impact your health and comfort.

The VOC Testing Lineup

We are experts at testing for the following VOC’s

  • VOCs in landfill gas and stack emissions by USEPA Method 18
  • VOCs in ambient air collected on thermal desorption tubes, USEPA TO17
  • VOCs in ambient air, collected in Summa Canisters USEPA TO15

At MPL we are focussed on quality – not just in the laboratory, but also in the way we help you understand VOCs. Our team at MPL will respond in a timely manner, while maintaining the highest quality available. Contact us today and ask us how we can assist you with air quality testing.

Stack Emission Testing

When we talk about stack emissions, we're referring to contaminants that are released into the air from industrial chimneys and stacks. Our team of experts and cutting-edge technology come together to test these emission samples for various contaminants and pollutants.

The Emission Checklist

At MPL our team can help you with testing for:

  • Carbon Monoxide (CO)
  • Fluoride – Gaseous and particulate forms
  • Hexavalent Chromium
  • Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S)
  • Metals
  • Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)
  • Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)
  • Total Suspended Particulates (TSP)
  • VOCs

At MPL our team of experts  provide testing services to help you make sure that what's being emitted from those stacks isn't harming our environment or our health.

If you have any questions, or need help with your stack emission testing, please contact us here.

Ozone Precursors

Ozone precursors influence the air we breathe. Picture this: nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) mingling in the atmosphere under the watchful eye of solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation. What do they create? Ground-level ozone (O3). While this may sound intriguing, it's important to recognise that ground-level ozone can pose a threat to our flora and fauna.

A Dance in the Sky: NOx and VOCs

NOx and VOCs react with UV radiation from the sun, forming ground-level ozone. This ground-level ozone isn't the good kind – it can disrupt ecosystems, impact plant growth, and even affect human health.

City Scape and Air Pollution

Zooming in to urban landscapes, we find another character in this atmospheric drama: hydrocarbons. They originate from sources like incinerators and the exhaust of vehicles in traffic. These hydrocarbons add to the mix, intensifying the air pollution cocktail.

Our NATA Accredited laboratories are equipped with scientific expertise and cutting-edge tools to help you monitor and analyse these compounds. We're on a mission to understand their presence in ambient air and even landfill gas. If you have any questions or need help with ozone precursors contact us here.

Speciated Sulfur

Speciated Sulfur is found in the building blocks of life, like amino acids and proteins. However, it also has a shadowy side, emerging from compounds formed during industrial processes, such as fossil fuel combustion, ore smelting, and petroleum refining. At heightened concentrations, these sulfur compounds can be hazardous, emitting an unmistakable and unpleasant odour.

Sulfur: A Sentinel for Safety and Environment

In the dynamic landscape of industry and well-being, the vigilant monitoring of sulfur in the air plays a vital role. This diligent watch ensures workplace safety protocols are upheld and safeguards both the environment and human health.

MPL are experts in testing of hazardous substances including sulfur compounds. Our laboratories are NATA Accredited which gives you assurance of quality and adherence to industry standards and guidelines.

We pride ourselves on fast turnaround times and customer service, and you can get in touch with us here.

Vapour Intrusion

Vapour intrusion arises when volatile chemicals present in groundwater and soil release vapours, embarking on a journey that leads them to basements, building foundations, ambient air, and confined spaces. During industrial activities, fugitive emissions emerge as gases escaping from pressurized equipment, often due to unintended leaks or operations.

Navigating the Nexus of Health and Exposure

Vigilant testing of vapour intrusion is imperative, transforming hazardous areas into sites of assessment and safety. Regular testing, and in certain scenarios, continuous monitoring, unveil a critical layer of protection against the risks associated with vapour exposure.

Precision in Vapour Sampling: A Science and Art

Vapour sampling requires precision. The conditions under which samples are gathered must mirror those of potential exposure scenarios. Summa Canisters, Tedlar bags, Thermal desorption tubes, and gas bombs become the tools of choice, each selected based on specific circumstances.

Backed by unwavering knowledge and technical prowess, we offer a comprehensive suite of air sampling methodologies and cutting-edge equipment. Our focus is to uncover the presence of volatile organic compounds and ensure the air you breathe is untainted. Contact us today, and embark on a journey where science meets safety, and expertise stands by your side.
